Upgraded Proton X50 posts best monthly sales year-to-date in July

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd says the revamped 2024 Proton X50 has achieved sales of 2,585 units in the first month of its launch.

The B-segment premium SUV has proven its worth once again as it recorded the sales figure in July, despite some initial scepticism from certain quarters, the national carmaker added.

The X50 sales in July was its best performance this year, vaulting the model back to the head of its class and solidifying its status as Malaysia's favourite compact SUV.

"Given its dominance of the domestic SUV market since its launch, the rebound may not come as a surprise to many.

"But few are aware that since its launch at the height of the pandemic on Oct 27 2020, nearly 120,000 units of the Proton X50 have been sold, making it the fastest selling SUV in Malaysian automotive history."

Proton added that despite stiff competition from newer rivals launched by Japanese and Chinese brands, the model secured a 10.3 per cent market share in the SUV segment from January to June 2024.

The X50, it said, resonated with a diverse demographic, appealing equally to both male and female buyer where over 60 per cent of customers are aged between 26 and 50 years.

This indicated its broad appeal to both young professionals and those with families, said Proton Edar chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah.

He added that the model's blend of performance, safety and connectivity continues to resonate with customers and satisfying their needs.
