Proton's maiden SUV gets major update 68 months after public debut

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton X70 sports utility vehicle (SUV) has received a major update since its public debut on Dec 12 2018.

The update for the X70, Proton's first SUV, should drive it to the head of the premium C-segment of the SUV market.

The 2025 X70 boasts a comprehensive update of its predecessor, featuring revised exterior styling, new interior equipment and upgraded ADAS level 2 safety technology.

And for the first time on a Proton model, the X70 will be equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Since making its debut 68 months ago, the X70 has revolutionised the Malaysian premium SUV segment.

Proton said the SUV has been the top choice for customers with over 100,000 units sold and earning seven prestigious awards over the past five years.

Its global counterpart, the Geely Boyue, has also achieved sales success with more than 1.8 million units sold in 49 countries worldwide.

"The 2025 Proton X70 aims to continue this legacy by offering a compelling mix of cutting-edge features and unparalleled performance," Proton chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong said at the launch here on Thursday.

"The launch of the 2025 Proton X70 is representative of the company entering the next phase of our partnership with Geely. With so many milestones over the past 18 months, from the launch of the Proton X90 and S70 to introducing EVs from smart, to opening the R&D centre in China and to the brand launch of e.MAS, it's easy for customers to lose sight of how far the company has come since the launch of our first SUV in 2018.

"Thanks to the comprehensive effort of Proton's vehicle development team that included over 4.2 million kilometres of testing as well as its array of updated features, improved performance and refreshed styling, we are confident the 2025 Proton X70 will continue to attract interest as a vehicle developed and built by Malaysians for Malaysia and the world," he added.
