KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd (SD Motors) has reassured its customers that the recent recall of certain BYD electric vehicle (EV) models announced in China does not affect vehicles sold in Malaysia.
As the official distributor of BYD vehicles in Malaysia, SD Motors said the BYD models sold in Malaysia are not affected because it is limited exclusively to vehicles sold in the China market.
"BYD Auto Industry Co Ltd and BYD Automobile Co Ltd are recalling certain domestically produced Dolphin and Yuan PLUS electric vehicles.
"The batches and models recalled within the China mainland region do not pertain to markets outside of the China mainland region," it said in a statement on Wednesday.
Recently, BYD informed the Chinese regulator it was recalling nearly 97,000 EVs for a manufacturing fault involving a steering control unit that could lead to fire risks.
The Chinese automaker is recalling Dolphin and Yuan Plus EVs manufactured in China between November 2022 and December 2023, according to a statement from the State Administration for Market Regulation.
