KUALA LUMPUR: The livestock industry promises lucrative returns for hardworking participants, says K.R. Thiagu, director of JP Livestock Industry (M) Sdn Bhd.
The company has been in the cattle-rearing industry for more than a decade.
JP Livestock is establishing its third branch farm, involving an investment of about RM10 million, in Negri Sembilan.
Thiagu said the farm is expected to come onstream in 18 months.
He said only those with deep interest in what otherwise is a challenging field would survive in the cattle-rearing business.
However, Thiagu said players
in the industry have access to a strong network that can provide good advice in developing their businesses.
He said the National Agriculture Policy 3 is focused on hastening the transformation process within the agriculture sector so that it will become more modern, dynamic and viable.
Thiagu said demand has been rising in recent years and among the cattle reared at his farms are the Kedah-Kelantan breed, Brahman and the local Indian dairy breeds.
However, he said there is still a shortage of breeds, which is
one of the challenges faced by the industry, apart from a shortage of land.
