KUCHING: The transboundary haze, which unleashed many round of its spells on the southern parts of the state, have forced the Kuching International Airport (KIA) to close its runaway for two hours resulting cancellation and delays of flights this morning.
Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd senior manager at KIA, Mohd Nadzim Hashim, said the runaway at the airport was closed since 7am due to thick haze and operation resumed about two hours later.
“As of 9am, a total 25 flights operated by AirAsia Bhd and Malaysia Airlines Bhd were cancelled.
“There will be some delays in the flight movement and we will send an update from time to time,” said Nadzim.
As at 9am today, Kuching registered unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings of 117. Also registering unhealthy air pollutant concentration was the Samarahan division with an API of 129.
