PETALING JAYA: Jump Street Trampoline Park and the Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) have sealed a first-of-its-kind public-private-partnership (PPP) agreement aimed at identifying and developing athletic talent in an effort to build Malaysia’s first trampoline team and to help them qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The agreement was signed between MGF president Razak Mat Amin Jump Street Malaysia Sdn Bhd CEO Duncan McGilligan recently.
Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin was also present.
The signing ceremony took place in conjunction with the official opening of Jump Street Trampoline Park, Malaysia’s first and Asia’s largest trampoline park, by Khairy.
As part of its collaboration with MGF, Jump Street will offer a beginners’ trampolining course to members of the public. This six-week programme, which costs RM300 and comes with a basic MGF membership, will cover a wide variety of trampolining basics including trampolining safety, motor skills development and simple acrobatics.
Upon completion of the beginners’ course, participants who find trampolining highly appealing and are keen to develop their skills further, will be given the opportunity to train with experts from MGF. The training will eventually progress to a level that can qualify him or her for regional or global events.
“Jump Street provides us with an excellent platform to discover and develop talent in an area of gymnastics where Malaysia is currently not represented, namely trampolining,” said Razak.
Jump Street and MGF target to have a gymnastics trampoline team ready to represent Malaysia at the Sea Games in Malaysia in 2017, and at future Commonwealth Games.
