KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad arrived at Tun Daim Zainuddin's home to pay his last respects to the former finance minister.
A visibly upset Dr Mahathir arrived at Daim's home at Persiaran Bukit Tunku at 12.49pm.
Others family members and friends of the former Umno treasurer have also arrived to pay their last respects.
Among them are Machang and Kota Baru members of Parliament, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal and Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
Daim, 86, passed away while receiving treatment at Assunta Hospital at 8.21am.
Funeral prayers are expected to be held after Asar prayers at Masjid Wilayah, Jalan Duta.
Earlier, Dr Mahathir paid tribute to Daim, saying he stood by him in the struggle for race, religion, and country.
Daim, the businessman turned politician served as finance minister between 1984 to 1991 and later between 1998 to 2001.
In 2018, Daim and other party veterans who backed Dr Mahathir in opposing then-prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, were sacked from Umno.
Daim would go on to appear in Pakatan Harapan rallies ahead of the 14th general election which saw the fall of Najib and the Barisan Nasional government.
Following the change of government, Daim spearheaded a Council of Eminent Persons tasked with advising the new government for its first 100 days.
