Perak to turn ex-tin mines into growth centres

BATU GAJAH: Perak’s development agenda to turn former tin mining areas into new growth centres is back on track and starting to pick up pace.

Yesterday, the state government, through MB Inc and Ipoh City Development Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Putra Perdana Development Sdn Bhd, launched a new township project located 35km from Ipoh.

Bandar Tasik Amanjaya has a gross development value of RM2.2 billion and covers an area of nearly 600ha.

The new township is touted to be the catalyst for growth for physical development around here which
has long been left idle after the collapse of the mining industry in the 1980s.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, who launched the project, said it was expected to revive interest in the redevelopment of formerly mining areas that had been left idle in the state.

It is estimated that Perak has nearly 30,000ha of idle land that were former tin mining areas.

He said the development of Bandar Tasik Amanjaya was one of the breakthroughs in his administration’s effort to spur growth in areas, which once made Perak great.

“We are reviving these (former mining) areas through development that can add value.

“We hope such a development project would create newer economic activities for the people of Perak.”

Bandar Tasik Amanjaya, which was originally proposed under the name Kinta Lake District, would be developed using a green technology model.

This includes the use of eco-friendly and sustainable designs with the objective to create a modern and green living experience.

The Bandar Tasik Amanjaya development would consist of 238 units of mixed affordable homes, 152 units of retirement homes, 373 units of terrace houses, 1,539 units of affordable apartments, 344 units of semi-detached houses, 1,230 units of medium-cost apartments, 147 bungalow units, 32 units of high-end bungalows and 400 condominium units.

The commercial development would include 250 units of shop offices and a 549,000 sq ft street mall.

Located near Universiti Technologi Petronas and Universiti Teknologi Mara, about 30 minutes drive from Ipoh, the project would be developed in 13 phases.

Zambry later handed offer letters to the first 20 buyers of the “Aman Anggerik” affordable homes.

Present were MB Inc chief executive officer Datuk Aminudin Hashim and Putra Perdana Berhad executive chairman Datuk Rosman Abdullah.
