SERI KEMBANGAN: THE Palace of the Golden Horses is hosting a Sri Lankan food promotion at the Carousel International Coffee House until Oct 31.
The promotion features dishes that are classified as masterpieces as they are concocted and prepared by celebrated Sri Lankan chef Dr T. Publis De Silva.
The chef was flown in from Colombo to develop the menu for the promotion, which is a cultural collaboration involving the High Commission of Sri Lanka here, the Mount Lavinia Hotel in Colombo and The Palace of the Golden Horses.
There are three rotation menus featured in the lunch and dinner buffet promotion.
Star dishes include the masterchef’s devilled fish.
Among items used are chilli flakes, garlic, ginger, onion, curry leaves, pandan, cinnamon, tomatoes, red and green peppers.
“All one has to do is fry the mackerel in oil.
“Sri Lankan food is uncomplicated that way.
“And what sets us apart from other outlets is the freshness of our ingredients and produce,” said De Silva.
He said almost no preservatives, additives and colouring is added to Sri Lankan food and everything is often made from scratch.
Sri Lankan cuisine also widely incorporates more than 40 herbs and spices that have medicinal values.
This includes cardamom, clove and coriander.
Other main courses to try include beef black curry, savoury rice and unu unu appam.
The appam is similar to the local appam but is heavier as it is infused with bull’s eye egg in a coconut milk centre.
The side which stole the show includes potato theldala.
The vegetable is sauteed with onion, green chillies, curry
leaves, pandan leaf, ginger and
garlic.
To finish off, have a milk toffee which is essentially hardened milk and sugar candy.
Also sample their coconut pancake which is made of eggs, flour, butter, milk, coconut flakes and sugar.
Do not leave before trying their watalappan.
The pudding is a palm honey, black sugar, eggs, coconut, nutmeg powder and cashew nut garnished, concoction.
The sesame and palm sugar sweet is a must-try.
This sweet is similar to the Chinese sesame sweet we get in grocery shops but is harder, tightly set and substantial. The sugar used is also finer.
A Sri Lankan welcome dance will also be performed at the eatery during dinner daily.
The buffet includes a variety of Oriental, intercontinental and local favourites.
The spread is priced at RM98++ and RM78++ per adult for dinner and lunch, respectively.
Children eat for half the price.
