LANGKAWI: A speed boat belonging to an Australian was destroyed when it caught fire while undergoing repair works at a dockyard in Kampung Bohor Darat, Kedawang here yesterday.
The owner of the boat, which has yet to be identified, was not at the scene during the 6.30pm incident.
The dockyard operator, Mohd Yusof Mohd Zam, 53, said he was about to close the premises when he saw smoke billowing from the speed boat and tried to put out the fire.
"However the fire had spread too fast,” he said.
The losses was estimated at about RM80,000.
Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department chief Yaakob Hassan said firemen from Jalan Ayer Hangat and Jalan Persiaran Putra were dispatched to the scene upon receiving a call.
He said no injuries were reported during the incident.
