Mayor unveils gems with KL Food Trails

KUALA LUMPUR: In an effort to promote the city as a melting pot of culinary diversity, VisitKL Tourism Unit recently launched KL Food Trails.

The KL Food Trails are self-guided trails which aim to highlight the city’s hidden culinary gems to the world.

In collaboration with Time Out Kuala Lumpur magazine, the initiative saw five areas within the city centre — Brickfields, Jalan Alor, Kampung Baru, Old Kuala Lumpur and Pudu — being featured.

Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib said the initiative would help to position the city as a culinary heaven and Asia’s Foodie Capital.

“A variety of cuisines is always available in Kuala Lumpur, at any time of the day.

“With cross-cultural integration among the Malays, Indians and Chinese, Kuala Lumpur has developed into a playground for food enthusiasts looking for authentic Malaysian culinary experiences.

“KL Food Trails will help to showcase the best of Malaysian food to the world,” he said, hoping that more outlets would be added to the list.

The KL Food Trails leaflet consists of a map of the city and a focused map of five areas, highlighting up to eight outlets.

The map is available free at visitor centres, shopping malls and hotels in Kuala Lumpur. It also available at www.visitkl.gov.my.

In Jalan Alor, visitors get to taste the best of Chinese stall-type of dishes at the Alor Corner Curry Noodle, Hong Kee Stall, Sangkaya, Yao Char Kuey, Beh Brothers Restaurant, Kedai Makanan dan Minuman TKS and W.A.W Restaurant.

The must-try places in Kampung Baru include Chunburi Seafood, Fatimah Selera Kampung, Kak Som, Restoran Antarabangsa, Restoran Rose, Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa, Restoran Noorizan and Apam Balik Nusantara.

While in Brickfields, Indian food lovers should not miss the banana leaf at Vishal Food and Catering Saravana Bhavan, Gandhi’s, Annalakshmi, Jassal Tandoori Restaurant, Moghul Mahal and Anjapar Brickfields.

Time Out Kuala Lumpur representative Lim Chee Wah said each trail has been crafted to include signature delicacies which reflect the representative cultures of the areas.

“We conduct our food review anonymously and have many guidelines.

“Through this stringent standard, we have curated food trails in various parts of Kuala Lumpur.”
