Fulfilling wishes with Leo Sayer concert

The singer-songwriter’s concert will inspire and entertain, writes Nur Aqidah Azizi

IT will be a night to remember, especially for those who have grown up listening to Leo Sayer’s hits.

On Jan 20, British-born Australian singer-songwriter Leo Sayer will take fans down memory lane once again with his evergreen hits at the Leo Sayer 40 Years At The Top Concert, scheduled to take place at Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The musician and entertainer, whose music career has spanned four decades, is set to perform in a 90-minute show.

With more than 20 Top 10 singles and five Top 10 albums to his belt, music lovers and fans of the singer, songwriter, recording artiste and Grammy Award winner can expect hits like When I Need You, More Than I Can Say, You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, The Show Must Go On, I Can’t Stop Loving You, One Man Band and Thunder In My Heart, among others.

Organised by The British Theatre Playhouse (BTP) in association with HOMME Productions, the non-profit charitable body Badan Amal Kasih Sayang Malaysia, which provides a better living environment for orphans and underprivileged children, has been selected as the official charity for the concert.

Founder and managing director of BTP, Cecilia Leong Faulkner, said giving back to the society is one of its corporate values.

“We believe that by giving back, we learn to focus on what matters in life. We hope to influence others to give more and help make a difference,” said Faulkner.

BTP is an independent theatre company founded and incorporated in Singapore in 2004. It has produced plays, musicals and concerts in London and brings them to the region.

Faulkner added that proceeds from the concert will go towards Bakasa’s Centre of Innovation Tengku Ampuan Afzan, or CINTAA, in Raub Pahang.

Also present at the launch was Bakasa’s president, Tengku Puteri Seri Teja Pahang Hajjah Tengku Muhaini Sultan Ahmad Shah.

CINTAA is aimed at rural school children, especially the underprivileged ones who require additional assistance in mathematics and science subjects.

Tengku Muhaini said through CINTAA, underprivileged children would be exposed to science, technology and the programming environment.

CINTAA, estimated to cost RM925,000 (building costs, programmes, equipment and manpower) for the first year, hopes to be “the centre for children to learn new technology and exchange ideas — a vehicle in improving children’s scientific literacy and technology acumen,” said Tengku Muhaini.

“BTP’s support takes us a step closer to making CINTAA Raub a reality,” she added.
