TNB recorded RM20m losses due to flood

PEKAN: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has recorded total losses of RM20 million after 587 of its electrical substations in the state’s seven districts were hit by the floods.

Its Pahang general manager Datuk Sharuddin Mohd Simin said Temerloh recorded the highest number of damaged  electrical substations at 174,  followed by Jerantut (161), Lipis (132), Kuantan (40), Maran (34), Bera (28) and Pekan (16).

He said TNB staff faced difficulties to repair the substations as the access roads were also damaged.

However, he said TNB was confident of resolving the problems by this week.

At the height of the floods, he said 30,000 people in the state faced power outage but at present, only Kampung Batu Balak and Kampung Pusai in Ulu Tembeling were still without supply.

"We spent  RM10 million to rent 85 generators and buy fuel for them, to ensure that the people in the affected areas had electricity," he said after leading 100 TNB volunteers in cleaning up Sekolah Kebangsaan Temai here, today.

"We have had to cut off the power supply in some areas to avoid any mishap and further damage to our property," he said.

He also advised the flood victims to have their electrical appliances checked by certified technicians before using them.
