Shots fired outside Nusajaya police station

NUSAJAYA: An unidentified gunmen, while chasing his victim, fired three shots towards the district police headquarters in Taman Nusa Bestari here today.

The 38-year-old victim who wanted to take shelter at the police building escaped unhurt in the episode.

However, a bullet penetrated his car, while two others hit the police station's building.

Earlier, it is learnt that the gunman and another accomplice who were in a car trailed the victim who is a money lender and threatened him with a gun.

The victim then fled in his car while being chased along Jalan Nusa Bestari 2/5.

Nusajaya police chief superintendent Noor Hashim Mohamad said the gunmen were not targeting the police station or any of his men.

“The suspects were believed to be tailing their victim from his home. Just as the victim's car was outside the police station, one of the suspect's opened fire," he said when contacted by the New Straits Times today.

It could not be immediately established if the suspects were trying to prevent the victim from lodging a police report.

Noor Hashim said that preliminary investigations revealed that more than three shots were believed to have been fired, as police found three bullet casings on the roadside.

He said police are still investigating the case pending further details.
