KUNAK: About 150 squatter houses were razed to the ground in a early morning fire at Kampung Pangkalan here.
The fire started at around 1.40am, and in the same village where authorities earlier this week launched an operation against illegal immigrants and suspected terrorists.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Services Department said a team of firemen from the district’s fire station responded after receiving a distress call from the public.
They were assisted by another team from the Tawau fire station.
No casualties were reported and the firemen managed to control the fire from spreading at around 5.20am.
About 100 of the structures razed were houses while the rest were shop houses.
