Dengue: 87 developers in Selangor to be charged

PUTRAJAYA: Developers of 87 construction sites in Selangor will be dragged to the court after being found to be breeding grounds for disease-carrying insects, said Health Ministry Director-General Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said the developers’ sites were among the 85 per cent of the 102 construction sites that were inspected during its ‘Ops Gempur’ Operations between Feb 10 and March 6.

The ministry, he said, had issued stop-work orders on 74 construction sites to conduct clean-up efforts.

“The ministry had implemented numerous measures to reduce the current number of dengue fever, which includes joint-operations on enforcement in construction sites in Selangor,” he said in a statement this afternoon.

Dr Noor said some 2,643 dengue cases had been recorded between March 1 and 7, while another 2,656 were recorded the week before.

He said the current death toll was at 12 throughout the week, compared to 36 deaths which were reported throughout the same period last year.
