Nidzam resigns, Abdi in charge as Selangor seek permanent replacement

KUALA LUMPUR: Under pressure Selangor FC head coach Nidzam Jamil has resigned.

The club confirmed his resignation in a statement released today (Oct 30), adding that Abdi Hassan - Nidzam's assistant - will take over in the interim.

"Nidzam has resigned from his position effective immediately and the club respects his decision," said the statement.

"We would like to thank Nidzam for his contributions throughout his time at the club.

"Under his guidance as head coach, Selangor are currently second in the league, emerged as runners-up in the FA Cup and also sit top of Group H in AFC Champions League Two.

"Abdi Hassan will take charge of the first team as interim head coach whilst the club finalises the recruitment of a new head coach."

Nidzam's departure does not come as a surprise

He had been facing increasing pressure from fans - the hashtag #NJOUT had been gaining traction on social media - following their 3-0 defeat at home to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in the Super League on Sunday.

Selangor, who are second in the table, now trail JDT by eight points after dropping five points in their last two matches. JDT has a game in hand.
