Malaysia to bring back 879 from Yemen

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia is striving to find the best possible way to evacuate the 879 Malaysian citizens in Yemen, whether through air or land evacuation methods as soon as possible.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said the figure was based on those who have registered with the Malaysian Embassy there and are mostly students.

"We are informed they are safe, but for Malaysians who have not registered, I encouraged them to do so and contact the Embassy.

"We are in discussions with the Yemen government and our Embassy there to find the best way to get them out, either through air evacuation mechanism which we find some difficulties at the moment or by land evacuation... but we will do this as soon as we can," he said to reporters when asked on the update of Malaysians in the conflict-ridden Yemen after handing over the letter of appointments to Malaysia's Heads of Mission here.
