#SHOWBIZ: TV3 to bring back iconic reality show

KUALA LUMPUR: TV3 is set to revive one of Malaysia's most beloved reality TV shows, which once captivated audiences and shaped the entertainment industry.

Could we see the return of shows like Malaysian Idol, Mentor, One In A Million, or Gang Starz?

These four programmes not only made television history in Malaysia but also launched careers and left lasting impressions on fans.

Malaysian Idol first aired in 2004 as the local adaptation of Pop Idol. It quickly became a gateway for emerging talents, such as Jaclyn Victor, who won the show's debut season and went on to become a major name in the Malaysian music scene.

Malaysian Idol offered contestants a unique platform to pursue their dreams, with viewers emotionally invested in the powerful performances and suspenseful eliminations.

Mentor, another fan favorite, introduced a mentor-protégé concept that paired established artistes with up-and-coming singers to develop their vocal skills, stage presence, and charisma.

Artistes like Fiq and Black rose to prominence through Mentor, which remains a highly-anticipated reality show known for its intensive training and entertaining performances.

Launched in 2007, Gang Starz was Malaysia's first reality show focusing on group performances.

This competition drew participants from across Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore, showcasing talent that crossed borders.

Groups like Malaysia's The Lima and Indonesia's Paragon Child gained widespread attention and advanced their music careers through the exposure they gained on the show.

One In A Million, which aired from 2006 to 2009, raised the stakes with a cash prize of RM1 million. Contestants faced rigorous challenges each week, and the show produced notable winners like Suki Low and Ayu Damit, who have since made their mark in the industry.

Talents like Faizal Tahir, Alif Satar, and Aweera also emerged, adding fresh energy to the Malaysian music scene.
