Sabah gets new police chief

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman has been appointed as the new police commissioner of Sabah.

The former Kelantan police commissioner took over the post from Datuk Hamza Taib, effective today.

Hamza, who has been the Sabah police commissioner for three years and eight months, is promoted as Bukit Aman Commercial Crime deputy director.

The handing over of police commissioner duty was held at the State police headquarters, witnessed by Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order director Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Rasid.

In his speech, Jalaluddin vowed to continue implementing plans that have been outlined for Sabah in the aspect of safety and security.

"I have always followed the development of Sabah and Sarawak while I was the Kelantan police commissioner.

"I understand the perception of Malaysians on this state in the aspect of safety, security, and sovereignty.

"I promise to carry out my duty responsibly. I hope all district police chiefs can cooperate as I cannot do this alone," Jalaluddin said, adding he would also sit with Eastern Sabah Security Command to discuss security measures.
