KUALA LUMPUR: Former Bar council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan was among 30 people arrested following the anti-GST protest in the city centre earlier today.
The suspects were rounded up from 7.30pm onwards tonight to facilitate investigations into the rally and several incidents that happened during its course.
City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Zainuddin Ahmad said those arrested, including two women, were aged between 17 and 59.
"The suspects are being held to facilitate our probe under the Penal Code's Section 143, Section 448 and Section 427, and Section 4 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act (CESOW) 1958.
"Police will apply for a remand order tomorrow (Saturday)," he said.
Section 143 of the Penal Code is for participating in an unlawful assembly, Section 448 (house-trespass), Section 427 (committing mischief which causes damage up to RM25), and Section 4 of the CESOW (using a corrosive or explosive substance or offensive weapon).
Zainuddin said police also seized several evidences, including a smoke bomb canister, at the scene.
