KUALA LUMPUR: Some 244 areas involving 402,333 homes in Kuala Lumpur and Hulu Langat experienced unscheduled disruption of water supply and low water pressure when the raw water pump at the Sungai Langat Water Treatment Plant (WTP) broke down at 10am today.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) Corporate Affairs executive director Priscilla Alfred said this forced them to reduce production of treated water to 432 million litres daily (MLD) compared to 460 MLD.
“Sungai Langat WTP operator Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd expects repair of the pump to start on Monday and will be fully completed on Tuesday (June 30),” she said in a statement tonight.
Among the affected areas are Taman Connaught; Desa Tun Razak; Jalan Syed Putra; Jalan Chan Sow Lin; Wisma Putra; Balakong industrial area; Taman Sungai Besi Indah (1,2,3); Bandar Tun Hussein Onn; Jalan Langat Batu 14 to Batu 17 and Jalan Kuari Sungai Long.
Alfred said to reduce the burden of users, Syabas will continue to provide emergency water supply via lorry tankers to the affected areas.
Since the area involved is large, priority will be given for emergency purposes such as death and weddings other than hospitals, dialysis centres and charity homes, she said.
“We (Syabas) will continue to inform users of the water supply status from time to time as required,” she added. – BERNAMA
