Joe Flizzow to duet with Taiwanese Dominique Tsai

KUALA LUMPUR: Hip-hop maestro Joe Flizzow will soon sing a duet with Taiwanese model-singer Dominique Tsai.

And their duet, which is still under wraps, is likely to be part of his label Kartel Records’ year end compilation album titled Made Men 2.

While Joe is not disclosing much details of that album, he did say that there would be 12 tracks, and they will be performed by Kartel artistes as Altimet, Zamaera, Ila Damia Johar, SonaOne and himself.

“Dominique is beautiful and talented, and I’m very honoured to have the opportunity to collaborate with her. I hope that our upcoming single will be well-received by fans in Malaysia and beyond,” said Joe at the launch of his new single Evo at Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Joe is currently back in the judge’s seat in reality television. Having been part of the permanent jury of 8TV’s popular dance reality show Showdown for three seasons, he is now one of the two members of the Champion Jury of Astro’s Akademi Fantasia Season 2015.

“The other member of the Champion Jury is former AF Season 6 winner Stacy Anam. We basically point out what’s good or otherwise with the performance of each student-contestant in every Sunday night concert.

“And we also award marks to each contestant for each song he or she performs in that concert, even if it may have no bearing on the contestant’s Short Messaging Service (SMS) votes,” he said.

Evo, performed by Joe and his protege SonaOne, marks their first theme song for a local movie. It is an Audi Mok composition specially for the action-comedy Polis Evo which will be released in cinemas on Sept 17.

Produced by Astro Shaw and directed by Ghaz Bakar, Polis Evo stars award-winning actors Shaheizy Sam and Zizan Razak as tough police detectives who go in pursuit of a ruthless drug kingpin.

SonaOne, who won Best Song at last year’s Anugerah Industri Muzik for his debut single No More, followed by Song Of The Year at Anugerah Juara Lagu 29 in January (with Joe) for the song Apa Khabar, is currently hosting hip-hop documentary series Hip-Hoppin’ Asia: The Saga Continues.

It is the sequel to the popular Hip-Hoppin’ Asia which was hosted by Joe two years ago.

The original documentary won Bronze Award at the 2013 Chicago International Film Festival Television Awards and Best Videography and Best Editing at the Anugerah Skrin 2013.

“We filmed the series over four months last year and visited seven countries - Cambodia, Lebanon, Indonesia, China, Singapore, Turkey and South Korea. It was great fun meeting aspiring and successful hip-hoppers from each country who express themselves in their native languages,” said SonaOne.

“What I’ve learnt most from hosting this wonderful documentary is that hip-hop is everywhere, a universal language that is adapted to various cultural settings. It is the voice of the common people who want to express their happiness, dissatisfaction and other heartfelt expressions to the public,” said SonaOne, who will release his debut album Growin’ Up Sucks by year end.
