GEORGE TOWN: Leading golf retailer and service provider MST Golf opened its first flagship store here recently.
Its sister company general sports retailer Sportsdirect.com started its maiden operation on the island at the same time. Both outlets are located at the newly-opened shopping mall at the Udini Square.
Businesses have been brisk with customers patronising the places to take advantage of various attractive discounts offered over until end of August.
Chief Executive Ng Yap said MST and Sportsdirect had a strong customer base from avid golfers and general sports enthusiasts in the northern region of the country.
"MST provides golfers with a world class golf shopping experience and Sportsdirect offers sporting apparels and accessories with exclusive brands to Penangites.
"The two outlets located next to each other are the biggest golf and sporting goods retailers in the state," he said when met in an interview.
Ng said MST being the core business, had firmly established itself as the premier golf store in Malaysia and the focus has been switched into general sports.
"Our aim is to open three more Sportsdirect stores by November this year," he said at the official launch of the outlets in conjunction with the opening of the Udini Square yesterday.
