BUTTER WORTH: Police are investigating how bombs had ended up in a scrap metal consignment received by a steel mill here.
Hundreds of bombs were found among scrap metal delivered to a steel mill in Prai near here last Thursday from abroad.
It is learnt that there 300 bombs, with most of them being live ones.
Penang Criminal Investigations Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Zakaria Ahmad said the mill owner bought some scrap metals from overseas, and the bombs were found mixed with the items.
“We were alerted about the bombs and we have carried out an investigation at the mill. The investigations are still ongoing,” he said when contacted by the New Straits Times today.
A team from the police forensic department had been sent to the mill conducting checks.
