KOTA BARU: Police have yet to identify the cause of the explosion heard in Ipoh recently.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the Oct 21 incident also caused several areas in Ipoh to tremble.
"So far, police have yet to determine the real cause for the incident.
"An official statement has already been issued.
The matter still remains a mystery," he said after the handing over of duties ceremony for the new state police chief here today.
Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat takes over as Kelantan police chief from acting state police chief Deputy Commissioner Mohd Ali Thamby, who is now Yusoff's deputy.
Residents in several areas of Ipoh reported experiencing tremors and hearing a loud explosion on Oct 21.
The areas include Medan Istana, Tasek, Stadium Perak, Meru, Falim, Klebang, Manjoi, and Tanjung Rambutan.
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the Ulu Kinta General Operations Force (GOF) was not training with explosives that day and the Land and Mines Office reported no blasting being carried out in quarries
The Malaysian Meteorological Department found no seismic activity in the Kinta district, even though an earthquake was reported in Halmahera, Indonesia that day.
