KUALA TERENGGANU: A 21-year-old student had been living the high life, pocketing around RM30,000 a month thanks to his life of crime as a drug dealer.
However, he is now left ruing his decision after police raided his home in Kampung Simpang Tok Ku, here, and seized 1.25kg of stimulant pills.
If convicted, the student faces the death sentence.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar said the student is believed to be a member of the ‘Mat Duan’ gang, which is active in the drug trade in Kuala Terengganu and Setiu.
He said, acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the student’s home on Sept 28.
Police then found two parcels containing 11,993 stimulant pills hidden in one of the rooms.
The seizure of the drugs, which has a street value of about RM180,000, is the state police’s biggest this year.
He said initial investigation showed that the student was earning about RM30,000 a month from his drug deals.
"Further checks also established that the suspect obtained his drug supply from his gang leader based in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan," he said, adding that state police were working with their Kelantan counterparts to track down the ringleader.
Police also seized a motorcycle and RM5,500 cash believed to be proceeds from drug sale.
The student has been remanded for investigation under Section 39B of the Drug Dangerous Act 1952.
