Drug trafficker arrested with RM30,000 worth of yaba

TANAH MERAH: A drug trafficker was arrested by the police for possessing 200g of yaba pills worth more than RM30,000.

Tanah Merah police chief Superintendent Mohd Haki Hasbullah said the suspect was detained at 11.45am in an anti-drug operation along the Thai border.

He said the suspect, in his 50s, was among 15 people arrested for drug-related offences.

"The district police launched a massive anti-drug operation yesterday (Oct 19), resulting in the arrest of 16 people in 16 separate drug cases.

"One of them was nabbed with the yaba (methamphetamine) pills worth more than RM30,000."

Haki said the pills, believed to have been smuggled from Thailand, were for local distribution.

He said all the suspects had been detained for further action.

Since January this year, he said, the district police had rounded up 244 people for drug offences.

"Of these, 160 comprised drug addicts, and the rest were pushers or traffickers."
