KOTA BARU: Three Thais were arrested by the police on possession more than 4,000 methamphetamine pills worth nearly RM30,000 yesterday.
Sungai Golok district police chief Colonel Jadsadavit Inprapan said the three were detained in Sungai Golok town, which borders Rantau Panjang, Kelantan.
He added that a narcotics team from Sungai Golok arrested the three about 4pm following public information on drug activities.
"After arresting the trio, we then found the pills, locally known as Yaba, from them.
"The three, aged between 26 and 46, were believed to be drug pushers who were actively selling the pills to local addicts."
It is learnt that the anti-drug operation was part of efforts by Thai police to curb the selling of drugs among locals, as well as Malaysian addicts, especially those living near the border.
Drug smuggling activities have been rampant along the borders of both countries and the Malaysian and Thai police have stepped up operations against this illegal menace.
