IPOH: Three in a family died following a eight vehicle pile-up at KM283.6 southbound of the North South Expressway near Simpang Pulai here.
In the 9.30am incident today, the dead were identified as Mohd Fazli Malijan, 32, his son Muhammad Shamsul, 15 and Shamsul's cousin Muhammad Amirul Hakimi Abdullah, also 15.
The trio died on the spot.
The incident saw six others including two policemen sustaining injuries.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong said the policemen were at the scene to investigate an earlier accident.
"Initial investigations showed a trailer that was driven by a 52-year-old man had lost control of his vehicle causing it to slam onto the victims who were standing at the emergency lane," he said.
The trailer driver had been detained to assist investigations.
