Truck driver dozes off, causes a four-vehicle pile-up

SETIU: Six people were injured after a four-vehicle pile-up along Jalan Kuala Terengganu here yesterday evening.

District police chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Zain Mat Dris said the accident involved two pickup trucks and two cars.

He said preliminary investigations indicate that one of the pickup trucks, a Ford Ranger, was travelling from Saujana to Merang when its driver dozed off and veered into the opposite lane.

It collided with another pickup truck, a Nissan Navara, which was travelling from Kuala Terengganu to Kota Baru, Kelantan.

"At the same time, a Proton Wira which which was behind the Nissan Navara crashed into it," he said in a statement.

Another car, also Proton Wira, then crashed into the back of the sedan.

The drivers of all four cars sustained minor injuries and were given outpatient treatment.

Two passengers, both from the two pickup trucks, were also injured and are being treated in Hospital Setiu.

Nine others who were in the other vehicles did not suffer any injuries.

The case is being probed under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act for driving without due care and attention.
