Goh Jin Wei clinches World Junior title

KUALA LUMPUR: GOH Jin Wei today became the youngest Malaysian shuttler to win the World Junior Championships.

The 15-year-old Penang-born defeated Lee Ying Ying 21-15, 21-16 in the all Malaysian girls’ singles final in Peru.

Jin Wei and Ying Ying also ended Malaysia’s wait for a medal since the 2011 edition, where Malaysia won three gold medals through Zulfadli Zulkiffli (boys’ singles), Nelson Heg Wei Keat-Teo Ee Yi (boys’ doubles) and the mixed team event.

BA of Malaysia (BAM) development manager Kwan Yoke Meng, earlier said he was proud of the achievement of both the players in reaching the final in Lima.

“Both players have done us proud by reaching the final.

“There was always going to be an equal chance of any of them winning. It doesn’t really matter,” said Yoke Meng.
