Shihomi clinches ITF junior singles and doubles titles in Ipoh

KUALA LUMPUR: Tennis player Shihomi Leong achieved a memorable double-victory at the Ipoh leg of the ITF World Junior Tennis Tour (J60) yesterday (Aug 4).

Shihomi, 17, defeated American Sena Yoon 6-3, 6-3 in the girls' singles semi-finals before beating fellow Malaysian Saw Jo-Leen 6-2, 7-5 in the final.

She then teamed up with Hong Kong's Lai Ching Laam to beat Jo-Leen-Lisa Anzai (Japan) 6-2, 6-2 in the girls' doubles final. Shihomi-Ching Laam had earlier beaten Anjali Junarto (Indonesia)-Sena 6-2, 6-0 in the semi-finals.

Shihomi, who is from Ipoh, said it meant a lot to her to win both the singles and doubles titles in her hometown.

"It is always special to play in Ipoh and to win both titles here makes it even more memorable," said Shihomi today (Aug 5).

"This is my second doubles title with Ching Laam though I had not won a singles title in a while prior to this.

"I hope I can build on my form in my upcoming tournaments."

It was Shihomi's third career junior ITF singles title after winning twice in Singapore in 2022.

It is her fourth ITF junior doubles title. Her last title, also with Ching Laam, came at Nonthaburi last year.
