KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from the son and wife of Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali over Bersih 4 rally.
The duo, 15-year-old Mohamed Basheer Azmin and Shamsidar Taharin, spent about two hours having their statements recorded at the Dang Wangi district police station yesterday.
Basheer and Shamsidar arrived at the police station at 3pm accompanied by Azmin and his daughter.
A police source when contacted confirmed the two statements were recorded.
It is learnt that both Basheer and Shamsidar were being investigated under Section 4(2)(f) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for bringing or allowing a child to attend an assembly.
Also present at the police station were Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah, PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang, social activist Hishamuddin Rais and lawyer Latheefa Koya as well as some 30 of Azmin’s supporters.
On Nov 8 Basheer was summoned by the police to the Dang Wangi district headquarters over the Bersih 4 rally.
In a series of tweets, Azmin said police had issued a notice under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code, ordering Basheer to have his statement recorded allegedly for attending the rally.
The session was postponed as Basheer had to attend examinations.
On Tuesday, Azmin tweeted that his son and wife have been summoned by police to give their statements.
"My son Basheer and my wife have been summoned by police tomorrow about the investigation into the Bersih rally. If they fail to show up, an arrest warrant will be issued," he said.
The police had declared the Bersih 4 rally as illegal but people defied the order to stage the street protest.
Children are forbidden from joining such rallies under the country's laws.
