SHAH ALAM: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has declared Monday a public holiday after Selangor defeated Kedah 2-0 in the Malaysia Cup final match last night.
Azmin said the win ended a 10-year drought for Selangor in the Malaysia Cup, one of Southeast Asia's most prestigious football competitions
"Congratulations to the team, management and players. The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has consented that Monday is a public a holiday.
"Last night's win was something that the people of Selangor are very proud of and I hope the victory will be repeated in the next challenge," he told a press conference after the Malaysia Cup final at the Shah Alam Stadium.
Azmin said the public holiday was to show the state government's appreciation to supporters of the Red Giants and the people of Selangor who had helped to return football glory to the state.
