Terengganu win Razak Cup title after fightback

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu came back from a goal down to beat hosts Johor 2-1 in the Razak Cup hockey final at Taman Daya Stadium in Johor Baru on Saturday.

The East Coast side, who were also Razak Cup winners in 2012 and 2017, finished with an unbeaten record in all eight matches.

Terengganu pocketed RM30,000 while Johor took home RM20,000.

Johor went ahead in the 26th minute off a field goal through Faris Ros Fadillah.

But Terengganu equalised in the 36th through Adam Haiqal Abdul Razak. And national player Nik Aiman Nik Rozemi scored their winner in the 43rd.

Johor should blame themselves for the defeat as they failed to convert their eight penalty corners.

Nik Aiman said it was a hard fought win for Terengganu. "All my teammates played as a unit and gave their best and it feels nice to win our third Razak Cup title."

National forward Faizal Saari of Terengganu emerged as the tournament's top scorer with 19 goals. Pahang outplayed 13-time champion Perak 5-1 to finish third.

In the women's event, Young Tigress beat last year's runners-up Selangor 2-1 in the final.

Young Tigress' Nur Iman Adawiyah Suhaimi scored a brace in the 18th and 44th minutes. Selangor replied through Qumyra Allysyia Iman Rizal in the 48th.

Terengganu finished third after edging Perak 3-2 in a penalty shootout after both teams failed to score in regulation time.
