Selangor players targeted by cyberbullies after FA Cup defeat

KUALA LUMPUR: Following Selangor's heavy 6-1 loss to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in the FA Cup final last Saturday, goalkeeper Samuel Somerville and midfielder Alex Agyarkwa have been targeted by cyberbullies.

Somerville, who is of English-Malaysian parentage, was slammed on social media, with numerous posts harshly criticising him.

The 30-year-old was accused of playing badly, and even of "selling the game" as some belligerent fans questioned his commitment and asked whether he had been paid off.

One user, Zzarith87, asked: "Did you sell the game bro? If so, how much were you paid?"

This was echoed by others who speculated about his financial motives and accused him of failing his team.

Another user, Hamtuuuu, criticised Somerville's performance, saying: "Playing the final like a friendly match… worst performance."

Meanwhile, Fdhfydh_said

remarked: "Sam oh Sam, your friends were all full of spirit and they wanted to make a comeback, but you ruined the momentum and your teammates' morale."

Agyarkwa also faced online backlash after his early substitution in the match. The 24-year-old posted an Instagram pic of his injury, showing the extent of his discomfort following a hard tackle by JDT's Bergson Da Silva in the 34th minute. Agyarkwa, who was in pain, was replaced by coach Nidzam Jamil just before halftime.

Timesport tried to contact Somerville and the club's media team for comments, but they were unavailable.
