KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today witnessed a milestone in the local electronic sports (e-sports) scene, with a record turnout for the Malaysia Cybergames 2015 (MCG 2015) tournament.
A total of 3,810 contestants took part in the three day event at the Stadium Negara, which ends today.
The event held at Stadium Negara sees teams battle each other in video games such as Fifa, Streetfighter, and Counter Strike.
The main event, however, is the Dota 2 tournament. The winning team will take home RM200,000 and will represent Malaysia under Team Taring at the International Cyber Games.
This will be Malaysia's first participation at international level.
The prime minister had a brief walkabout and viewed the numerous items on display at the venue, which included electronic gadgets and even drones.
Najib also mingled with several participating teams. The winner of the Dota 2 tournament will be announced tonight.
Also present at the event was Multimedia and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Keruak.
MCG 2015 is supported by the Youth and Sports Ministry.
