PETALING JAYA: The Automated Enforcement System (AES) and the Kejara demerit system will be implemented by March at the latest, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the ministry has finished its research on the two exercises and the outcome and proposal will be brought to the Cabinet as soon as possible.
"We are conducting detailed engagement programmes with the relevant stakeholders and the public.
"Hopefully we will be able to be done with this process in two or three months so the schemes can be revived very soon," he said during an official visit to Sri Pentas earlier.
He said the exercises were important to safeguard the lives of road users and reduce the number of traffic accidents.
"The exercises are not meant to burden the people but to tackle reckless driving and to save lives.
"It is also aimed at changing the behaviour of road users towards becoming responsible drivers."
The AES system was put on hold in 2011 due to enforcement and feasibility issues.
It was proposed to begin in 2012 but met with strong public objection.
In December 2012, the Attorney-General had halted all court proceedings related to summonses issued under the AES to study legal issues raised following a public outcry.
The Dewan Rakyat had in December 2013 adopted a motion to allow the government to take over the AES.
