Motorcyclist runs red light, gets killed in crash

MELAKA: A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV after he ran a red light in Krubong last night.

The deceased was identified as Muhammad Hairul Nizam Mat Sahat, 20. The factory worker was killed on the spot in the accident which happened around 10pm.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said preliminary investigations indicate that the SUV was travelling from Tanah Merah to Taman Kerubong.

He said the SUV had stopped at a traffic light and continued its journey after the light turn green.

"Suddenly a motorcycle travelling from Krubong Perdana jumped a red light and this led to the crash," he said in a statement, adding the SUV driver was unharmed.

Christopher said police were looking for witnesses to assist in investigations.

The case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving.
