KUALA LUMPUR: A black plastic package hung from a tree at the Sri Putramas I condominium in Jalan Kuching sparked a bomb scare today.
The black plastic packaging contained a polystyrene box, that was hung on a tree located five meters from two gas cylinder storage rooms.
A bomb disposal unit was despatched to the scene but found the polystyrene box empty.
The unit took around an hour to bring down and inspect the box before safely concluding that it was free from explosive elements and that the area was safe from any imminent danger.
Earlier, Sentul Fire and Rescue department received a distress call at 5pm from police regarding the object.
Firemen arrived shortly, followed by the bomb disposal unit.
Sentul Fire and Rescue senior officer Zakaria Yusuf said: "we were ready in case an explosion happened because the box was hung near the cylinder gas storage rooms.
"From the look of it, the box was intentionally tied to the tree by some unscrupulous person," he said.
