LOS ANGELES: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived here Thursday for a week-long working visit to the United States, including attending the US-Asean Leaders Summit in Sunnylands, California.
The plane carrying Najib and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor landed at the Los Angeles International Airport at 8.30am local time (12.30am on Friday in Malaysia).
The prime minister was greeted by Malaysian Ambassador to the US, Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin.
Najib and Rosmah are scheduled to meet the Malaysian diaspora and students in Los Angeles at Rumah Malaysia, the official residence of the Malaysian Consul-General in Los Angeles on Saturday (Sunday in Malaysia).
Najib will then proceed to Sunnylands in joining US President Barack Obama and nine other Asean leaders for the two-day summit starting Monday (Tuesday in Malaysia).
The Asean leaders will be in Sunnylands at the invitation of Obama and this is the first time the US-Asean summit is being held outside Asean countries.
How the US can facilitate the establishment of the Asean Economic Community through innovation and entrepreneurship will be discussed.
The leaders will also deliberate on peace, security, maritime, trans-border crimes and terrorism issues during the meeting.
Najib is also scheduled to meet fund managers, captains of industries as well as visit two of the world’s giant technological companies – Apple Inc and Tesla Motors in San Francisco on Wednesday (Thursday in Malaysia), at the end of his working visit.
Meanwhile, Rosmah is scheduled to visit the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital here on Monday (Tuesday in Malaysia) and Academic Talent of the University of California, Berkeley in San Francisco on Wednesday (Thursday in Malaysia). --Bernama
