#SHOWBIZ: Week-long MIFFest to feature 50 films from 30 countries

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian filmmaker Woo Ming Jin's latest movie, Indera, is set to kick off the week-long 7th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) today.

This was announced during the opening ceremony of MIFFest at The Exchanged TRX, here, yesterday.

The film, which stars Shaheizy Sam, Azira Shafinaz, and Samara Kenzo, is set to captivate audiences with its masterful blend of psychological horror and emotional depth.

The cast and crew of Indera also took to the stage to share their insights and experiences at the evening event.

MIFFest president and founder, Joanne Goh, emphasised the festival's mission to create unforgettable cinematic experiences.

"MIFFest is not just about films, it's about celebrating the art of storytelling and the diverse voices that bring these stories to life," she said during the opening ceremony of the festival.

Also in attendance were National Film Development Corporation (Finas) CEO, Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib, and celebrated actor and MIFFest ambassador, Bront Palarae.

This year's theme, "Uncaged", is brought to life with an impressive lineup of 50 films from 30 countries, presented in over 35 languages.

The selection reflects MIFFest's dedication to breaking boundaries and spotlighting unique stories.

Another significant highlight was MIFFest's collaboration with foodpanda, which presented the short film, Good Things Take Time, which was a tribute to the arduous yet rewarding journey of filmmaking.

MIFFest invites all film enthusiasts, industry professionals, and cinema lovers to embark on an extraordinary cinematic journey from now until July 28.

Over the week, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in an array of screenings, insightful discussions, and exciting events. Movie screenings will take place at GSC MyTown and GSC LaLaport BBCC.

The competitive awards segment of MIFFest, dubbed the Malaysia Golden Global Awards, is set to happen culminate in a gala awards night on July 27, starting at 8.30pm.
