PUTRAJAYA: A thousand drug addicts rehabilitated by National Anti-Drugs Agency will be given jobs in Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and Felda Global Ventures (FGV) plantations around the country through the Palm Oil Program For Life (OPAL) programme.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Razali Ibrahim said the former addicts would be placed in phases at 20 Felda and FGV plantations.
"The first group involves 50 people who will be placed at Felda Serting, Negri Sembilan beginning mid-March.
"They will be paid the minimum wage of RM900 with a two-year contract as well as given hostel accommodation and transportation.
"We want to give a second chance to the former addicts and indirectly help reduce the dependence of foreign labor," he said after announcing the Opal programme today.
