KUALA LUMPUR: UEM Group Bhd plans to negotiate with the Ministry of Works on the toll rates at its PLUS Highway concessions in the next few months.
The company has set a timeline by June for PLUS Malaysia Bhd to submit a proposal relating to toll rates and conclude its decision with the ministry.
"For the time being, we are waiting for the government to decide on the toll increase that was supposed to be effective in January this year."
"We have not submitted anything. We are planning to have that discussion at some stage, depending on the government's decision," UEM Group's managing editor and chief executive, Datuk Izzaddin Idris told reporters after the celebration of UEM Group's 50th anniversary today.
PLUS Malaysia, an expressway arm of UEM Group, was scheduled to increase the rate at four of its five highway concessions by five per cent on 1st January 2016.
Under its revised concession agreement (CA) with the Government in 2011, PLUS Malaysia is entitled to increase toll rates on highways under its concession by five per cent every three years from this year. The hikes would last until the concession period ends in 2038.
The highway concessions under PLUS include PLUS expressways - North-South Expressway (NSE), New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Federal Highway Route 2 (FHR2) and Seremban-Port Dickson Highway.
It also includes North-South Expressway Central Link (NSECL), Malaysia-Singapura Central Link (MSSL), Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) and the Penang Bridge.
Last year, PLUS said in a statement that the toll rates on all of its highways remain unchanged following the other toll rate hikes effective 15th October last year. PLUS have been charging the same rate at all its toll highways since 2005.
