SEREMBAN: A 53-year-old garbage truck driver cheated death when the vehicle he was travelling in caught fire near a petrol station in Mambau, here today.
In the 11am incident, the victim had parked the vehicle near a petrol station as the lorry had broken down.
Seremban fire station operation chief K.Putthisigamany said an engine with eight firefighters was deployed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at 11.10am.
Putthisigamany said the driver and several petrol station workers attempted to put out the fire but failed. They then contacted the Fire and Rescue Department.
“When we arrived, the fire was blazing; it took about 30 minutes to extinguish the fire. About 60 per cent of the lorry was burnt,” he said.
He added that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
