KUCHING: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is expected to issue an initial report on surveillance of some 100 fishing boats from China guarded by two Chinese Coast Guard ships within Malaysian waters.
The boats were spotted trespassing the country’s waters in the South China Sea near Beting Patinggi Ali, near Miri.
An MMEA spokesman said the agency was expected to issue a statement later today.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim had on Thursday said a Bombardier aircraft and three MMEA vessels had been deployed to check on the encroachment.
Meanwhile, Asia News Network reported that a Chinese Coast Guard ship allegedly rammed into a fishing boat from China, which had been seized by an Indonesian patrol boat for allegedly fishing illegally, recently.
The report said the coast guard ship had rammed into the fishing boat to pry it loose from Indonesian authorities.
The news network also reported a case of a group of fishermen being allegedly harassed by the coast guard ship from China while they were out fishing at a spot located in the West Philippine Sea.
