Hundreds of shoppers evacuated following bomb scare at Malacca mall

MALACCA: Hundreds of shoppers were evacuated following a bomb scare at a busy shopping mall in Jalan Lagenda, Peringgit here at about 2.40pm today.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said the evacuation was carried out at about 3pm after police received a report that a warning was found scribbled on the door of a toilet at level one of the shopping centre.

"The note was discovered by the shopping mall's staff saying that four bombs would explode.

"The bomb disposal unit, forensics team and two K9 dogs were called in to scour every area of the building.

"We searched for three hours but we did not find any object that can be linked to bomb," he told reporters at the scene here.

It is learnt that the handwritten note, written with a marker pen had since been painted over by the shopping mall's staff.

The mall has resumed its operation.
