Melawati residents told to evacuate homes following landslide

KUALA LUMPUR: The occupants of 20 houses have been ordered to evacuate following a landslide near Jalan E6 in Taman Melawati, near here.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said all the houses were located in Jalan E6.

"For the time being, we managed to inform only several residents as many of them are still at work.

"We have placed personnel at the scene to inform residents to evacuate for the time being for safety reasons," he said when contacted.

Azam said police received information about the landslide about 10.30am.

"The landslide caused over 20 terrace houses to be cut off from the main road.

"Based on initial checks, a car has been damaged by the landslide," he said, adding that a security post was also damaged but no casualties have been reported.

He said affected residents were ordered to go to the multipurpose hall along Jalan E6.
