Suspicious package sparks bomb scare at Tourism Ministry building

KUALA LUMPUR: The Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry (Motac) building was reported to have received a bomb threat on its 14th floor, prompting an evacuation around 4.30pm.

Motac staff and visitors were instructed to leave the premises as a precautionary measure.

Astro Awani's Senior Assistant Vice President, Zaiful Mohd Ariffin, who was present for a meeting, shared details of the incident.

"Ministry staff observed a suspicious package that appeared to resemble a bomb. At this point, we still do not have further information about the package. As a safety measure, staff were instructed to evacuate the building," he said.

The New Straits Times has contacted the Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Department, which confirmed they were alerted to the incident and are currently on the scene. The Bomb Disposal Unit is also present.

NST is reaching out to relevant authorities for further confirmation.
